Description: Antique Von Schierholz German 2-piece Art-Nouveau Porcelain Compote. This antique centerpiece was made by The Plaue Porcelain Factory, which is associated with the Schierholz name dating all the way back to its founding by Christian Gottfried Schierholz in Plaue, Thuringia, Germany in 1817. Initially founded as a pottery, it underwent several name changes and expansions over the years. By 1829, it became known as C.G. Schierholz & Son Porcelain Manufactory Plaue, and around 1900, it transitioned to Von Schierholz's Porcelain Manufactory Plaue GmbH. Throughout its history, the Porcelain Factory Plaue has maintained a reputation for exquisite craftsmanship and design, contributing to its lasting legacy in the world of fine porcelain. This particular piece features an Art-Nouveau design that consists of a removable fruit basket with openwork rim supported by a flower garland base and four "putti" on an oval base. This piece features gilding and hand-painting as well and was possibly made in the early 20th century. Maker's mark is on the base. The bowl measures approximately 10.5"x 8.5"x 3.25" and the base 12"x 8"x 7". Good condition. There are a few tiny chips on some of the flowers on the top. circa 1900s-1930s, estimated value $1600-1700. It's a beautiful piece, very intricate, detailed craftmanship, pictures barely do it justice! There are some very minor chips on a couple of the flowers, but in great shape for being 100 years old.
