Antique Sterling Silver Finger Guard Thimble for Finger Sewing Tool. Description: This sterling silver finger guard, also called a finger shield, was found in a late 19th c. sewing box and likely is American and dates from that time. It's basically a thimble for your left index finger. It has a lovely and useful ridged design, and a decorative edging, and is marked Sterling and "9" which is likely its size. While looking like a ring, it's much too tiny to be a ring; but it fits perfectly over the index finger. You don't find these finger guards very often, possibly because folks might not recognize what they are, so I'm very happy to be able to offer this to you! Condition: Excellent antique condition.
