A stanhope or stanho-scope isan optical device that enables the viewing of microphotographs without using a microscope. They were invented by Ren Dagron in 1857. There is damage to the image inside the viewer due to its 150 year old age. The needle case is carved from bonelike material and is adorned with intricate carvings along the band, it is a stunning piece that dates back to the 1875, in Europe. The case is designed to hold needles and features a unique screw lid that keeps them safe and secure. It measures 3.75." long. Condition: Some minor discoloration from age. Image through Stanhope is not visible/broken from age. It is perfect for those who appreciate the art of sewing and the history of antique sewing items.
