Description: Rochester is a city in and the county seat of Fulton County, Indiana with a population of 6,270 at the 2020 census. It was laid out in 1835 by the founder Alexander Chamberlain, named after his former home, Rochester New York. A Rochester post office was established in 1836 and the city was incorporated in 1853. Located on the east side of Rochester, Lake Manitou is a popular place in the summer for boating and other water-related activities. City Park is located on the western side of Rochester. The lake is a man-made lake, created in 1827 by the federal government of the United States for the “Potawatomi Native American” tribe. The Potowatomi originally called the lake “Man-I-Toe” which translated to the “Devil’s Lake” due to the belief that a monster lived in the lake. The lake contains about 775 acres of open water, with a maximum depth of 65 feet. The card, published by the “E.C. Kropp Co”, chronicles “Sailing on Manitou Lake”. It is postmarked in Rochester, but the date is not readable. It is a DB, 1907-1915 and is in good condition with minor wear. There is some postal ink on the image which is otherwise clean and clear as is the reverse. The message states that “we are having a fine time”. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible.
