Description: Beautiful hand hammered and tooled Roycroft bookends. I believe these are brass although when I purchased them online from a reputable decorative arts auction house they were represented as being copper. The colour is quite attractive as is the design. The outer portions of the body have the tell tale hand hammered finish. The body is tapered narrowing at the top with the tip of the top scrolled to hang over the middle portion of the body which is flat finish unhammered metal. The top of this middle portion, under the scrolled tip,has been tooled to create the effect of flowers in high relief which are hanging from the scrolled tip of the bookend. The middle unhammered and untooled portion almost shimmers with a colour close to copper. The hammered and unhammered portions are separated by two ridges of metal that swoop diagonally up from the bottom to the edge of the scrolled tip. Both bookends are clearly marked with an early Roycroft mark dating the piece to c. 1915.I have taken photos of the marks and you can satisfy yourself re the date of the mark.5.25" tall and 3.75" wide. See my other Roycroft and Heintz listings. Combined shipping available. Thanks for looking.
