Description: The original wearer of this pre-Civil War maternity dress was Mrs Robert Carr Patterson who wore this around 1840. The dress stayed in the family until a few years ago and we recently acquired this during the closure of a small western Kansas antique store. A label attached to the dress in 1972 by a descendant has been left in place. As western Kansas was not settled until the 1880s, the dress was made elsewhere at least a generation before it came here. The dress is 58 inches from hem to collar and is partially lined. It shows a few very old repairs made with some of the original material, there are numerous small holes (these do not appear to be insect related), a larger hole, a few dark spots and some cuts in the fabric as shown in the images. It gives the appearance of having been stored in a trunk for decades, perhaps a century or more. Shipping & Handling includes full insurance with professional packing to insure safe transit (see our Customer Reviews). This item ships with interleaved tissue in a box large enough to prevent creasing.
