Antique Plastic (Possibly Celluloid) Baby Doll Closing Eyes

Description: This is a very cute little doll, quite possibly antique - an identical one (lacking the after-market wig) was sold elsewhere as "antique", so we had a closer look at her and agree that it is quite likely that she is celluloid rather than plastic. (NB testing for this - at any rate in a non-destructive way - is not an exact science. When we held her foot under hot water there was a distinct camphor smell, which is one accepted test; and the texture - when tapped against the teeth [Grandma's unfailing test for pearls, early plastic etc] was the same as a manicure set that we know to be celluloid. We can't guarantee the results. Moreover, we aren't experts on dolls.) Considering her age, she is in reasonable condition. Her legs are detached but could easily be secured by twisting a rubber band between them inside her body. Her head originally had a moulded pattern of short curls which can still be seen under a dark wig which has been glued on at some point in her history, and given a trim by a child who hopefully did not go on to become a hairdresser: it may be possible to remove this (though care should be taken, as if she is celluloid, acetate will soften her scalp). Her eyes still open and close. She comes with a rather beautiful woven and stitched bonnet. She measures 6 inches or 153mm. There are some faint marks her and there but none on her face.
