Through my research, Pompeii is a city in Italy and in Greek mythology Ajax or in Italian Aiace what’s the name of two heroes, both of whom fought in the Trojan war. This looks to be a piece of plaster that has been carved with the portrait of AIACE in great detail. The frame is oval and the inside lining of the frame at the bottom of the plaster has a small tear. The overall frame seems to be in good shape and the backing seems to have where probably do to how old it is. Please use all photos as part of the description. The oval frame measures approximately 7“ x 5 1/2“.
