Description: This antique gravure lithograph of a lady by the noted artist and illustrator Paul Gavarni of France (1804-1866) measures 6" by 8" in a frame measuring 10 1/4" wide by 12 1/4" long and weighs 1 pound, 9 ounces. It is in fine condition with the print showing some aging (see photos). (7077 Paul Gavarni was the pen name of Sulpice Guillaume Chevalier, noted French artist and illustrator who was born in Paris in 1804. In his early career as an illustrator, he devoted himself to architectural and mechanical drawing as well as mapping and land surveying. He was in his 30’s when he began his love of illustrating people, focusing on everyday people that he saw on the streets of Paris and other places. His work became well known and you can see the attention to detail in his subjects’ facial expressions and posture, making them come alive. He passed away in 1866.
