Description: A very old c.1920s Pima / Papago basket. IT IS LABELED AS A PIMAGO" WHICH IS WHAT DEALERS/ TRADERS often call these because while it looks like a Pima, it is most likely a very early Papago as it is all willow and devil's claw. The Papagos went through all the willow on their reservation and transferred to using yucca sometime after the 1930s. This one is identified by the square clear start and a coil size and shape associated with the Papagos. Labeled as turtle back design on the base of the basket and having a one persons identification from a while back providing a tiny bit of provenance. Made of a bear grass coil and wrapped in willow and devil's claw with an old style braided rim. NICE old example and it has A LOW PRICE ! Track Page Views WithAuctiva's Counter
