Description: I guarantee you will never find another pair of these. From what would have been a spectacular Palais Royal needlework box, come these circa 1820 carved mother of pearl sewing scissors. The box would have retailed from one of the fabulous artisans at the Palais Royal. If you were among the wealthy, a piece from the Palais Royal was a status symbol. These needlework boxes with their delicate mother of pearl pieces, were rarely actually used for needlework. Some pieces also came with a pair of steel scissors, which would have likely been the only pair ever used, and are the most frequently missing from the boxes. This pair is extremely rare, and I guarantee you will never see another. Carved with dolphins and inset with tiny turquoise cabochons, this pair of scissors is exquisite in its craftsmanship and beauty. The scissors are in phenomenal condition. One tiny turquoise cabochon is missing from one side, but this is a quick and inexpensive fix for any jeweller. The beads in the fishes' eyes are all still present. The bands above the blades are almost certainly gold - they almost always were - although we have not had them tested so please keep that in mind when bidding. I imagine the cabochon settings are the same. The scissors measure approximately 4.75" long from the center points above the finger rings, to the tips of the blades.
