Description: This is a charming and interesting Antique Old Primitive American Southern Folk Art Cows Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, likely dating to the last three decades of the 19th century. This artwork depicts a bucolic landscape scene, with tall trees, green grasses, and blue hued mountains in the distance. In the central foreground are two dairy cows, one black and the other with a black and white spotted pattern and udders. The cow on the right grazes on grass, while the black cow on the left stares directly at the viewer. Signed on the top stretcher bar of the verso, although slightly illegibly: "Painted by Mrs. Libbie (?)" Approximately 19 3/4 x 27 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 17 x 25 inches. Good condition for over a century of age and storage, with one small tear to the lower left corner, and a few pinhole tears and spots of paint loss to the right edge of the canvas. Additionally, the original period gilded frame has moderate scuffing and edge wear (please see photos.) Acquired from a barn sale in Southern Texas, United States.
