The presentation gavel is engraved: "WOOD FROM WILD CHERRY TREE STANDING AT FORT NECESSITY AT GREAT MEADOWS, PENNA. BUILT BY GEN'L GEORGE WASHINGON IN 1754" The Battle of Fort Necessity, also known as The Battle of the Great Meadows, took place On July 3rd, 1754. This was the First Military Combat Experience for George Washington. Washington was later selected as Commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. From the Estate of a New York Governor in the 1800s. The Generational Estate dates back from the 1840s. I do not specifically know the year this was made but you can tell it's old. The font engraving is old, The wood is old. I cannot find anything like it in my research. It's truly a 1 of a kind piece that deserves a great home and museum worthy collection.
