Description: Highly unusual Antique Oil Lamp standing 68cm tall overall. The lamp base is a simple tapered brass column upon a square plinth and having a screw fit top. A large green Vaseline glass font screws into the base and is moulded in the rococo manner with scrolls and flowers and overpainted with a floral decoration in shades of aubergine, dark claret and pink with blue beaded accents. The font is fitted with a patented (although by whom I don’t know) lugged collar with unusual locking mechanism. A Jean Stadelmann duplex burner is fitted, and is marked with the sun face motif to each working black glass wick winder. The snuffer lever works well, new wick has been fitted and an unbranded flat bulge chimney. The lamp is fitted with an antique brass gallery that supports an antique cased glass shade. The globe shaped shade is substantial and although the pictures make it look red, it is in fact a dark claret colour leaning towards aubergine when not lit. U.K. BUYERS ONLY The pictures taken to illustrate the uranium glowing under black light don’t quite capture the strength of the reaction and it is this strong reaction that prevents me from being able to send this lamp overseas. From past experience I know only too well that this beautiful antique lamp, would most likely be confiscated at customs and destroyed. For more antique oil lamps please see sellers other items.
