Description: 1808 Engs Baltimore Rye" whiskey jug from Philip W. Engs of New York City. Engs was born in 1789 and started his whiskey business in 1808. He made a fortune selling wine and liquor and thanks to his sons, P. W. Engs & Sons stayed open until prohibition, long after his death in 1875. Engs was very active as a fire fighter and he ebecame an elected official helping to provide healthcare, public education, and housing for the poor. With his headquarters in Manhattan he was able to play a big role in the early development of New York City. It's likely his Baltimore whiskey was shipped to him from a Baltimore distillery......... #baltimorerye #baltimorehistory #baltimore #baltimorewhiskey #maryland #marylandwhiskey #marylandryewhiskey #marylandrye #manhattan #newyorkcity #nyc #whiskeyhistory #history #antiques #whiskey #antique #historic #whisky #rye #ryewhiskey #preprohibition #preprohibitionwhiskey #prohibition Condition is Used - very good, clean, no chips or cracks noted, typical light age and wear Approx 11” x 5”
