Description: Add a touch of genuine historic and antique charm to your jewelry collection with this locket by Sidney Osborne Bigney. Mr. Bigley was born in Nova Scotia in 1854 into the d'Aubigne family that included statesman Louis Villain d'Aubigne and the French miniature painter Pierre d'Aubigne. His mother was a descendent of Adam and Charles Black who are well known in connection with Sir Walter Scott's works. As a young man, Mr. Bigney moved to Attleborough, Massachusetts, mastered the trade of tool making and stamping, and began his business in 1894. He later was founder and president of the Attleborough Co-Operative Bank, was hugely important in rebuilding business after an earlier fire, and the provenance for this piece will be sent with the locket. This belonged to my paternal grandmother. Note that some of the 14k gold beads show dimples. As a Victorian period locket, it's built such that when worn, it's opened with the right thumb nail to see the picture facing the wearer; thus, the photo should be mounted upside down. It is currently empty; the piece includes the fitted frame that holds the photo in place. The locket is a beautifully gold-filled, is larger than most lockets at 1 5/8 inches by 1 1/8 inches and features a unique 5-petal flower/swirl design that is sure to turn heads. If you look at the beads from which it hangs, the granulated disk beads are gold plated sterling silver (vermeil), the round 3mm beads (30 of them) are 14k yellow gold, and the tiniest beads are gold-drawn glass. It makes a perfect addition to any outfit, adding a touch of elegance and comes with an incredible history. Be sure to look at my other items because I combine as many items as I can safely pack in one box. It saves a bundle on postage as a number of small items can be packed with a large one. I charge no fees for handling. If the total weight makes the USPS charge more, then I do pass that along to you, but if the mail software charges something outrageous, I refund the difference. I typically choose to use USPS Ground Advantage but if I think it’s worth it, I’ll list is as Priority; you can always ask that I adjust the invoice. The USPS doesn’t recognize “fragile” anymore - 3 different clerks told me “we don’t have a fragile class of mail.” But I pack as well, perhaps better, than the average bear. Sorry, no returns.
