Antique Large Wall Sconce Light Oscar Bach Style Dragons Murano Caged Glass

Description: An exceptionally dramatic, large (30 inches high) and rare sconce the evokes Florentinian or Venetian style. The sconce features a lavender caged-glass globe and has finely detailed casting in what we believe is silvered bronze. The backplate has four dragons facing a helmeted warrior, possibly Saint George in the allegory of Saint George and the dragon. The shade holder is also ringed with a dragon relief. The warrior appears to be Italian and helmeted and in a style typical of art from the Renaissance era. See last photo to compare the sconce to a Renaissance painting of Saint George and the dragon for similarities. Best estimate on date of origin is 1900-1920, but is possibly from an earlier time. Has"9946"on the backplate, but no other mark. The backplate doesn't rest completely flat against the wall, it is slightly warped. Probably could be straightened easily enough; we have had it hanging on a wall in our home for quite a while and don't notice that it isn't flush on the wall. The socket is new and fits a standard bulb. The light is wired with a cord and switch so you can hang and plug it in anywhere, but it would be simple to remove the cord and hard wire the sconce to your electrical. The caged glass globe is Venetian in the style of Murano. The lavender globe 12 inches high with a 3.75 inch fitter and weighs 3 pounds 2 ounces. The globe uses an unusual pin-in-hold keying-in mount, instead of typical thumbscrews. Globe could use a cleaning. Finish is original with wear typical of age with some finish loss and a few paint specs. See photos.
