Description: Karachopf Kazak, late 19th century. 74" x 51". A cheerful Kazak featuring a well-drawn ram's horn ivory border framing a red ground with an ivory outlined triple medallion. The ram's horn motif is repeated as ground ornament as well as in the center of each hooked medallion. A completely balanced composition with a masterful use of color complementing the design. Nice wool, saturated dyes. Very good condition: clean, even wear, original ends and sides, very minor repiling. At a size that's suitable for hanging on a wall. Provenance: Bonham's Los Angeles, Fine Oriental Rugs & Carpets, 2015. Estimate: $3,500 - $5,500.see: https://www.bonhams.com/auction/22382/lot/2011/a-kazak-karachof-rug-caucasus-size-approximately-4ft-3in-x-6ft-2in/ Hi-res images available.
