Antique John Law Walker Pershing Square Los Angeles WPA W/C Painting

Description & Condition: John Law Walker California, Arizona, Scotland artist (1889-1965)Up for sale is this antique circa 1930 American WPA style watercolor on paper painting depicting "Pershing Square" in Los Angeles. There are several people enjoyng the summer day. Some are sitting under the shade of the trees with the buildings in the distance. It measures 10 1/2" by 8" sight size and is in very good condition. It is signed on the matting and titled lower center. The black frame measures 14 3/4" by 12 1/2". A fine and rare example of John Law Walker. Here is some info on the artist"A painter, muralist and etcher, John Law Walker was active in both California and Arizona and traveled throughout the country as doing murals.He was born in Glasgow, Scotland and in the 1930s and 1940s, while living in Burbank, was actively painting in California where he was a student of Millard Sheets, Clarence Hinkle, and Frank Tolles Chamberlin. He was a member of the California Watercolor Society, the Los Angeles Art Association, and the Santa Monica Art Association.As a WPA mural artist, he did work in United States Post Offices in Pasadena and Lockhart, Texas, and the Treasury Department in Washington D.C.
