Description: Vintage, antique Christian Greek Orthodox Gold Work embroidery on black velvet Heart, Anchor, Cross with Chain design, 6 inches by 8 inches. Research indicates it dates to the early 1900s or possibly earlier. The top “gem” of the three on the heart appears to me to be a modern rhinestone replacement but the green and red “gems” seem original to the piece and are likely glass. This was an estate sale find so I cannot be certain. The workmanship is amazing. There are white spots on the black velvet in the supplied pic that are not easy to see in normal lighting. To be clear there is likely very little or no actual gold in the embroidery, just very lightly coated thread if anything.
