Description: Antique French Sterling Silver Clad Ice Cream Serving Set, Neoclassic, Alphonse and Edouard Debain Master Silversmiths in Paris This handsome antique French sterling silver clad ice cream serving set is designed in the Neoclassic style, with garlands of laurel leaves and stylized lotus leaves (“Feuilles d’eau”) on the handles. The upper parts are gilded metal with an engraved and silver plated border of leaves and flowers. The handles bear the French “Minerve Premier Titre” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. The Minerve Premier Titre is the guarantee that the sterling is at least 95% silver. The handles and the upper parts also bear the maker’s marks of Alphonse and Edouard Debain. The first mark consists of the initials “A” and “D” surrounding the image of a woodcock, the mark of Alphonse Debain, master silversmith located in the rue du Temple in the Marais district of Paris between 1883 and 1911. He was a Gold Medal winner at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. The second mark consists of the name “Debain” along with the image of a firebird and a star, the mark of Alphonse and Edouard Debain, master silversmiths in Paris, located in the rue Rambuteau and later in the rue des Quatre-Fils between 1911 and 1929. Both pieces are in very good condition except for some very tiny dents on the handles and a few scratches on the upper parts and the handles, all due to age and use. This set is offered in its original case which shows a few signs of wear. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
