Marked on the base "Made in France", the base has a taped on tag from Sloans Antique auctioneer, the tape and tag have not been removed. The exact age is uncertain, but is estimated from similar item sales and images. This intricately and delicately crafted birdcage is believed to be made from brass, the bird appears to have real feathers, this wind-up music box is not only a beautiful display piece but also a delightful experience to see, as the bird inside flaps its wings, moves, and chirps as its beak opens and closes. Magnificent work of its time. Similar pieces may be seen in backgrounds of old fashioned movies. Note the bird does not sing music, it chirps and moves, as in the video example to be provided.
