Description: This beautiful antique oil painting on board depicts a tavern scene and is signed by the artist, making it a one-of-a-kind piece. Note details such as the open shutter, smoke from the fireplace (drafty flu!) sitting dog and 18th Cen apparel as they add to the story depicted in the artwork. The reverse shows that the underlying board is chamfered around the edges to more easily fit into a frame. This technique and the clothing worn in the painting suggests that it was done in the late 18th century. The painting measures approximately 9.25 inches by 8 inches (unframed) and 13.5 inches by 12 inches (with frame). It is of the continental school, and likely either Italian or Flemish in origin. There is a signature in the right lower corner that is somewhat illegible. It could be Thuile or Thello. The item(s) are antique and sold as is/as found. The item(s) may show wear, fading, scratches, repairs, restoration, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. I note abrasions to painting, especially where it has rubbed against the frame at its edges as shown in photos. There is also darkened pigmentation, and a slight puncture upper left above figure with hat. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing.
