Description: FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE....! Found in an estate liquidation on the island of Madeira in Portugal, that of a retired Antiques Dealer. Antique expertly tinkered foot warmer intended for use in a carriage or sleigh, commonly called a Chaufferette in France. Purchased decades ago at the flea market in Paris, it has survived in very good seldom used condition. Oval in form with stylized floral piercings, it measures 9 1/2 inches across and stands 2 1/2 inches high. All the seams are sound. It has a secure handle and was designed in two parts that slide one into the other. There is a loop and slot meant to secure the two pieces when in place. At one time, there was a pin of some sort attached to a chain. Only the chain survived, the pin was long ago lost. This most likely dates from the mid to late 1800s, possibly early 1900s.
