Description: Here's one of those interesting items that turns up in the world of Antique Wind-Up Phonographs. It is an Antique Fibre Needle Cutter designed for the purpose of cutting a fresh tip off of the bamboo needles that were made to play the old 78 RPM Records on an old wind-up phonograph. You were supposed to clip the tip off of each needle after each single play of the record until the needle was too short to use anymore. It's purpose was to save on the wear to the records (which were relatively quite expensive at that time). These fibre needles could only be used in phonographs that have a triangle needle chuck hole, such as most Victor Talking Machines, Victrolas and some other brands as well. I will include 12 of the bamboo needles with this needle cutter. It is still in good working order. This one has the Trademark logo on it for the VICTOR TALKING MACHINE COMPANY showing "Nipper" the dog (later shown on the RCA logo), and the same logo is also used on the HMV ("His Master's Voice) machines and records that were made in England & Europe. I suspect that it was made here in the USA about 100 years ago. This brand of needle cutter usually sells for a lot more than some of the more common ones that turn up often. It makes for an interesting conversation piece when you are demonstrating your machine! Shipping cost in the continental USA is $8. Shipping to other countries would be the actual cost. Don't forget to check out the other Antique Phonograph, Edison Items & "Nipper" Dog items that I am also offering for sale here on eBay, now and in the coming month or so. Thanks!
