The Gymnastics and Sports Federation of Patronages of France (FGSPF) is a French multi-sport sports federation founded in 1898, in Paris, by Doctor Paul Michaux under the provisional name of Union of Gymnastics and Military Instruction Societies of Patronages and Works of youth in France. After having had to temporarily adopt, in 1901, the title of Federation of Catholic Gymnastics Societies, it took its final name in 1903. It hosted the women's organization of the Women's Sports Department during the Occupation and definitively merged with it in 1947. to become the Sports Federation of France then the Sports and Cultural Federation of France in 1968. As its two initial acronyms clearly show, it is above all a gymnastics federation, therefore a competitor of the Union of Gymnastics Societies of France, the latter being close to the League of Patriots and the League of Education which is both claiming to be secular or even anticlerical. The FGSPF also became a competitor of the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques when it came to concern itself with other sports and more particularly with football, because alongside gymnastics, which motivated its creation, it was quick to choose also this one as a reference sport. Its clubs competed from 1904 to 1914 during the French FGSPF Football Championship which it organized. In 1908, she succeeded in imposing the French Interfederal Committee, which she had created a year earlier, as the only federation recognized by the International Federation of Association Football. The appearance of specialized sports federations after the First World War did not seem to cause it any problems, unlike the USFSA, which disappeared from the national scene.
