Description: This lovely handmade bag was purchased at auction from the Powers Museum, formerly of Carthage, Missouri. The Powers/Winchester/Wright family was wealthy and well-traveled. The museum housed thousands of their beautiful personal items, dating from the 1880s-1950s. Marian "Toots" Winchester opened the museum in honor of her mother, Marian Powers, and grandmother, Wright. Her mother was a world-renowned Coloratura Soprano, shown in the last two photos. Sadly, Covid caused the museum to close in 2020 and all items were either donated to local historical societies or sold at auction. The bag is light brown linen with silk embroidery in the colors of pink, celery green and mint green. It measures approximately 21" x 15" x 3.5" and is in nice condition. There may be a faint watermark in the upper right corner of the flap- I couldn't tell for sure in my lighting and it doesn't show through on the inside of the flap. The black and white tag (photo #11) was for museum identification and is lightly basted in, easy to remove if desired. The bag weighs 5 ounces and will ship via USPS ground.
