antique EAPG open compote DIAMOND RAY Montreal Canada DIAMOND GLASS ~1890

Description: Offered for sale is a beautiful antique EAPG glass OPEN COMPOTE or pedestal bowl, made in Montreal, Quebec by the Diamond Glass Company. The pattern is called DIAMOND RAY, and was introduced in 1890 or 1891. The bowl and stem were molded separately, and joined with a molten glass wafer (picture 7) when the compote was made. The foot and stem are identical to the ones found on the CROWN pattern that was made by Belmont Glass, and it appears that the mold for the stem moved to Diamond Glass when Belmont closed in 1890, and was paired with a new bowl design for the Diamond Ray pattern. The compote stands 6 1/4 inches (15.9cm) tall, and measures 6 3/4 inches (17.1cm) in diameter at the rim. The foot measures 4 inches (10.2cm) in diameter. A U.S. quarter is shown in the third picture, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. It is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. There is no discoloration or cloudiness in the glass. All of my items are from a SMOKE FREE home. Watch for the other fine antique and EAPG glass items I'm offering this week!
