Description: This EAPG covered compote is made by McKee & Bros. circa 1886 in Pittsburgh, PA.. It is 8.25" tall (without the top) 12" with the top, 9" wide, 7" deep and has a base of 5.5" x 4.25". Its an excellent example of Early American Pressed/Pattern Glass in McKee's Deer & Tree pattern. There is one minor condition issue, a chip (the size of a match head) on the inside rim edge of the top. It goes away when the top is on (its not visible). These compotes are unusual but not "RARE". I've been told that when you find these they're usually missing their tops or if you're lucky enough to locate one with it's original top they're dinged up with multiple chips, flea bites and/or cracks. I don't know how they've managed to remain together in great shape. This came out of the estate of a local antique dealer, it was in his personal collection and not with the items he had "For Sale". Once again, we're pricing this piece at 50% of the guidance provided by Replacements Ltd.. Two last items worthy of note, there is a interior bubble that formed during production on one of the corners of the top. I find these minor production flaws to be interesting since they make the piece unique. Several of these would be irritating and sloppy production but a single one is fortuitously elegant. I like when a piece has this type of character. You can see the bubble in my sixth pic at the top of the corner. The other item of interest is that the top's knob has small diamond imprints to assist in holding the knob, its a neat bit of detail. This is visible in my seventh pic. Now for the boilerplate. Please ask all questions prior to purchase since this is a no return sale (unless the item is significantly different than described). We've only had Two returns in over five hundred transactions on eBay (it was a mistake on my part, forgot to check the battery compartment in a camera's flash unit and the second was a variant of a motor drive). We treat our buyers the way we'd want to be treated if we were the buyers. We usually ship within 3 days of payment. The wife and I are comfortably retired and we're doing this to get rid of three generations of hoarding and its pizza and beer money for the grandkids in college. We believe it's dishonest to make money off shipping, you pay exactly what it takes to get your item(s) from our house to your address of record with eBay. We customarily overestimate shipping weight to assure shipping costs are covered. If there is a significant differential (more than $1) between the actual shipping cost and what you paid for shipping you will be reimbursed (our 100% guarantee, see our feedback comments). If its less than $1, thank you for the contribution to our eBay funded IRA (we're up to about $39). This compote will be wrapped securely for shipping, especially the top. Of course, Buyers are responsible for additional costs i.e., insurance, customs duties, enhanced levels of delivery, etc.. Notify us prior to payment if any of these "non-customary" circumstances exist in order that proper adjustments may be made. Just our personal opinion but we don't think insurance is necessary in the majority of transactions but sometimes its cheap piece of mind. It may be advisable in this case. Currently, I have two other pieces of McKee glass in this pattern up on eBay. Thanks for looking.
