Description: This is an old Coco de Mer Palm Seed from the Seychelles in very good condition. It has been emptied and opened to make a drink dispenser. It is very clean inside. It is not polished. It has a vintage brass spigot on which is written the word “Fiddian.” This ‘Fiddian’ style spigot was used on wooden beer, wine and water barrels. These spigots often have the name stamped "Fiddian" on the top turnkey; it’s rare to find an example with the key, as they were often lost. W. Fiddian & Co., Great Hampton Street, Birmingham, started up sometime before 1816 making brass candlesticks, bells and spigots, up until c1870 when the company was taken over by James Barwell. The spigot turns, but it is plugged up at the bottom with a cork that appears was stuck inside. It has a metal rung on the back, apparently for hanging. The hinges also appear to be brass. It is 14 inches (36 cm) long and 30 inches (76 cm) around. I purchased this very large coco de mer in 1970 at a garage sale in San Francisco. See photos..
