Description: Stunning antique Chinese official’s red leather hat box from the late 19th, early 20th century. It is made of rich dark red lacquered leather, most likely pig skin, with a brass latch and hinge. It is shaped to house the conical hats worn by Chinese officials of the era. The interior of the lid shows the Chinese character "sky" (天). Measuring 13” tall with a 15” diameter the box is in good antique condition with light age and use appropriate wear. It is capable of opening, closing, and latching but both latch and hinge are a little loose. The hinge was at one point replaced, but the replacement appears vintage or perhaps antique as well. The lid does not completely line up with the base anymore. Attached to the bottom is a previous sales tag. Please carefully review the photos and feel free to ask questions. Estate item.
