It is intricately woven with metallic cross threads and silk threads which develop the pattern. While multi-color design is robust, the woven fibers are lightweight which produces some degree of transparency. There is no evidence of fading or previous use. This trim is an original piece from China and is believed to be from the early 1900s. I purchased it with a number of similar trims and suspect they are New Old Stock. Check out my other listings for different patterns. This piece measures 138" x 1 1/2". The internet as a few postings for this trim but don't mention how it was used. My purpose was to frame other pieces of textile art. Embroidered Chinese textile panels often have a trim dividing the central figure and the frame of the panel.
