Description: Antique Chinese carved bamboo small bitong brush pot with hand carved scenes of mountains, birds flying, buildings, figures in a boat and a setting/rising sun. Age: 18th/19th century Dimensions: 7 7/8″ high x 4" wide. Brush pots were used by Chinese and Korean scholars between the 18th and 19th century. Calligraphy brushes were generally kept in the brush pots but intermittently, they were also used to stock paper rolls (rolled-up papers) hence they are sometime also called paper holders.[ Ideal for collectors of Asian antiques, this brush pot would make an excellent addition to any collection or a statement piece in any room. Its use is not limited to just holding brushes, as it can also be used as a decorative item or a small vase. Item in excellent condition. Has the number 42 scratched onto the bottom. No idea why.
