The back of the writing surface lifts up to reveal a Secret Panel which slides up to reveal two small Secret Drawers behind. On the top of these there is a Pen tray, a lidded compartment and spaces for Inkwells.When the drawer is opened a Mechanism operates to slide back the Tambour top and then it is possible to lift up a Superstructure which is hidden beneath.The superstructure contains numerous compartments and an Original hand mirror which sits in the middle.The superstructure can be dropped down by pressing the sides.The Tambour with alternating Camphor and Ebony strips.Working lock with key provided.19th Century.A heavy Desk.
