Antique Campaign Style Tantalus Ship’s Decanter Box, Early 19th Cen

Description: Here is a rare opportunity to own a ships decanter set of 3 cut glass decanters with stoppers housed in a brass bound campaign style mahogany carrying box with recessed handles and working lock. The box measures approximately 7.5 inches high and 7.75 inches square. It retains its original gold decorated green leather interior, brass hardware, ebony wood edging and detailing and working lock with key. It is sectioned to hold 4 square decanters, with 3 of its decanters remaining. Each decanter is made of heavy square crystal bottles, cut on shoulders and edge of lip with ground mouths holding diamond cut round stoppers and polished pontil. Bottoms have chamfered edges with Roman numerals etched on each. The decanters measure approximately 5 inches high (without stopper) and are 2.5 inches square. Each stopper sits at slightly different heights, some possibly replaced. This makes for a range of overall heights between 6 inches to 6.75 inches. The item(s) are antique and sold as is. They may show wear, fading, scratches, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. In particular, I would call out that the box has extensive wear to original leather lining, some wear to exterior wood corners and a repair to the lid’s lower right corner as shown in photos. Also shown in photos are chips to one stopper base and the base of the decanters. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing.
