Description: Lucky Savings Bank “registers and adds nickels dimes and quarters”. Made from metal (tin?). Coin slot on top, and lever bisects top half. Counter appears just upper left of front title. Graphics includes interlocked lucky clovers, four horseshoes and whirling logs. Colors are gold-tone, dark green, and terra cotta red. Silhouette suggests a cash register. Coins retrieved from bottom panel. Key not required. Panel is supposed to open when $10 saved. I did not open because of fear of damaging mechanism inside, so untested. I put a dime in and it struck the right number of dings and updated the counter. Top two boxes read “Deposit and register one coin at a time” and “Bell rings once for a nickel, twice for a dim, five times for a quarter”. Rear panel provides directions. Made by Shonk Works – American Can Co., Maywood, Illinois. Patented November 11, 1913 and June 13, 1916. This piece probably dates to circa 1920. Dimensions: 5" high x 3 -7/8" wide x 5" deep Hallmarks: At base of directions panel, "Shonk Works - American Can Co.". More about this company follows at the end of this description. Condition: Very good giftable condition. Mentionable issues: a) Obvious losses to Litho decorations, and b) slight surface corrosion predominantly on seams and lever. Tested with dime, and confirm correct number of bells rang and counter updated. No key required or ever present. No structural issues such as dents, pings, dings, bashes, tears, breaks, or repairs. Unpacked weight: 1 lb. 7.4 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase. Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.More about Shonk Works:The Chas W. Shonk Co.
