Description: Mischievous flapper adorned garter buttons from the 1920’s. A complete set of 2. Hand painted fabric over metal with ribbon accents. Approximate 1” diameter. Light wear. Some discoloration of the back of the black ribbon on 1 button. It does not appear to show through to the front. Patina observed on the back metal portion of both buttons. The face on one is darker and crisper than the other. Please review the pictures. There are no returns. With the absence of corsets, garter belts with attached garters and roll garters became a popular way to hold up stockings, which at the time were non-elastic. Women opted to wear brightly colored garters adorned with pin-back buttons that bore cheeky phrases and sentiments. Unlike standard pin-back buttons, which are printed on paper then topped and sealed with a plastic mylar, these 1920s buttons were printed on fabric that was then wrapped around the steel face of the button. A careful amount of detail was applied when finishing the buttons and additional decorative elements were added as well.”
