GORGEOUS IMARI BOWLCA. 1835 DIMENSIONS About 14 3/4" diameter x 5" deep DESCRIPTION Beautiful Imari bowl marked "AMHERST JAPAN / NO. (blank) / STONE CHINA" in a blue scroll imprinted mark. Often the blank would be filled in with a hand painted production number. Rust red and blue floral and foliate pattern, with a pagoda on a fenced path. This mark was in use around 1835. "Amherst Japan" is named after Lord Amherst (1773-1857), the British diplomat who was envoy to Beijing and later, the Governor General of India.
