Description: Antique French paper mache box measures 3 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, and 1 inch high. Box has a faux tortoise painted finish with a scene of a woman and cherubs on the lid. Interior of the box is lacquered in a rich orange/red tone.Box is done in the Vernis Martin style which is a lacquer style developed in18th century France by the Martin brothers and was used to decorate small French antiques such as snuff boxes as well as large cabinet pieces. Box is in good condition with no cracks or missing pieces. The hinges are sturdy (not loose) and the lid closes well. The bottom edges of the box and the image on the lid have some small areas of paint loss. It's a beautiful, very old box. Shipping: USPS Priority Mail with insurance and tracking.
