Description: Antique Moroccan Basin & Pitcher for Hand Washing before dinner. Truly an amazing piece of art and craftsmenship. Used to wash hands while sitting down for a feast. The kettle would be filled with warm water, placed atop the lid on the basin and servants would carry around to family and guest as they sit and water could be poured over the basin and funnel into it, as hands were cleansed. More modest families would gather around as one would pour while everyone could rinse their hands. Before indoor plumbing this was high end for upper wealthier families. Most are brass, very few silver, but the one for sale here is one of a kind that must have been special order at the time. Note: notice the photo where I circled in yellow two handmade markings, one on the edge of the basin and the other on edge of the funnel/filtering lid. When placing the lid onto the basin these two must line-up for the lid to sit normally. It is obvious when you see this in person that the lid was hand hammer and decorated, no machining.
