Description: This unbelievable piece of artwork is hand carved from a heavy weight, light colored, solid piece of wood of unknown species and origin. The pedestal and base are also of antique wood but believed to be of separate origin and species. This piece was a family heirloom passed down through at least four known generations of a prominent Catholic family migrated to the United States from Eastern Europe in the 1900s. The piece is believed to be much older, but I have no way to confirm that claim. It is has lots of unique one-of-a-kind appeal: scratches, gouges, indentations, and markings...all very old and "worn in" to the piece in such a way that it is hard to tell what was original to the artist's intention and what is just "character" from age and handling and storage. The overall height of the bust and base and pedestal is 22". Approximate width is 8" at the widest point. There is no signature, inscription or maker's mark on the bottom of the pedestal and I wasn't brave enough to attempt to remove the bust to investigate the bottom of it separately as it appears to be secured solidly to the base.
