Description: Offered is this letter on letterhead of the Engineering and Mining Journal, with offices at 253 Broadway in New York. The typewritten letter is dated March 30, 1897 and has been written to the Republic Mining and Manufacturing Co. of Hermitage, Georgia. The letter requests the company supply the magazine with the current price of bauxite so it can be included in the magazine's price list of chemicals and minerals. Bauxite is the chief ore of aluminum, which had only come into mass production about a decade earlier when a low-cost way of processing the ore was invented. The letter is approx. 10 1/2" x 8". It is in good condition, with no holes or tears except for a small chunk missing from the upper-right corner. There are creases where it has been folded.
