Description: Antique Plated Bronze 1895 République Française Memorial Fallen Hero Firefighter MedallionSilver (?) Plate over Bronze Hallmarked on Bottom EdgeAs Yet Un-inscribedWilling to consider SERIOUS offers from Knowledgeable Collectors I. CONDITIONNew: Unused. This is a vintage antique estate sale attic treasure. It has been loved. It has an unknown history. This item is new in the sense that it is as originally produced: It was never issued, inscribed, or dedicated to a particular recipient. (See pics.) • Item’s Background - French Immigrant Antique Collector's Estate Sale Item • Working Condition – Excellent. This item is fully presentable and functions as originally intended. This item has never been engraved. • Cosmetic Condition – Unused. Virtually no unusual wear, rust, or corrosion. But it also has some of the usual expectable vintage aging, considering its relative time period. (see pics.) On the plus side it's air of nostalgia is pretty much all there to take in and appreciate. • Background - I know little about this piece of history. Please help me if you read this listing and can add to its place in history. • Loyal Followers Please Note - I originally listed this item as a French WWI military memorabilia. Lest we forget - France has always been our longest, staunchest ally. We fought alongside the French in both world wars. Because so much of the war was fought on their soil, French casualties in WW1 were shockingly horrendous: Combat Deaths Casualties (Millions) (Millions) Total WW1 Allied Losses 4.8 11.6 France 1.15 4.3 United Kingdom 0.7 1.7 United States 0.1 0.2 Russia 0.8 0.4 It has since been suggested to me that this item may in fact be an antique French Firefighter Memorial Token of appreciation by a grateful government for heroic service - used for presentation to widows, parents, and other family survivors. (See pics.) In particular note the plume holder on left side of the helmet, the firefighter-type ax on the ground, and what appears to be a struggling hose-crew in the background. II.
