Description: Antique BH & Co. Cast Iron Copying Press Made in the late 1800's by the B.H. & Co Has the maker's logo. Research also indicates that it was used for copying an original document. The written document with copying ink was placed against a moistened sheet of tissue... the two were pressed together in the heavy iron press... a copy would appear on the tissue. Since the copy was backwards, the tissue had to be held up to the light to be read.The copy press became a fixture in every Victorian office. Today they are sold as book binding presses, as the original use has often been forgotten. Very practical size for pressing books or flowers and other interests crafts.
