Antique 1800s German Tiny SAD IRON with SLUG 19th c. Solid Brass RARE FIND!

Description: Antique German Tiny SAD IRON with SLUG 19th c. 1800s Solid Brass VERY RARE FIND! This must be the tiniest iron ever made, a must-have for collectors. Called 'Slug Irons' or 'Lace Irons', these unbelievable inventions demonstrate the ingenuity of the day. Totally made of solid brass, equipped with a sliding swing door on back it is quite unique. An unfinished metal insert slug, shaped like the iron would be removed & heated on the stove/fireplace. Once hot, it was carefully placed back into the iron slamming the door ready for use. These miniscule tools were created to press wrinkles between tiny lace folds. Almost impossible to handle with regular irons, the larger end would make unsightly creases on frilly lace. Ingenious gadget & extremely hard to find as a 'complete' set. Slugs this small were generally lost with time. Also, the top handle, swirling-metal, is completely wrapped with a small strip of leather to protect fingers. Again, rare to find any remaining leather as this would tend to break away & fall off from heat erosion. This was certainly well preserved. Condition is Used/Pre-Owned in excellent shape showing normal wear as expected with age & usage, no chips or cracks. Leather is very hard now due to age as well (see pictures as part of the description). We do not clean antiques as some prefer to leave patina & history as-is, we leave this for others to decide.
