Description: Antique 14k Yellow Gold & Seed Pearl Chi Psi Fraternity Pin. Dates engraved on back. Stanford University, California. 1918 and 1921 engraved on the back. This two-piece emblem has a Chi emblem set with 15 beautiful seed pearls (2 missing) and a Psi emblem with a beautiful etching with a cross, flowers, and skull and crossed bones. The clasp is from the early 20th century. These types of clasps aren't manufacture anymore and aren't used by their current manufacturer, Herff Jones. This piece is made very well; the rivets are in perfect condition and the swivel loop on the clasp works splendidly. The engraved name appears to be the following: JOHN HENRY ANKELE, JR Although he has been engaged in the practice of law in San Francisco for a comparatively few years, John H. Ankele, Jr., is rated as one of the most promising of the younger attorneys of the city and has acquired a large clientele which is indicative of the professional ability he has shown. He is a native of San Francisco, his birth having occurred April 24, 1899, and he is a son of John Henry and Ida (Westerfeld) Ankele. His father was born in Germany, and in 1873, when seventeen years old, came to California. Here he engaged in the insurance business until his death on May 30, 1929. His wife was born in San Francisco and is descended from one of the well known families of this city. Her father, Louis Westerfeld, was a pioneer bakery and restaurant man of the city, and members of the family are now represented in many business and professional occupations here. John Henry Ankele, Jr., attended the public schools of Alameda and San Francisco, California, from 1905 until 1913, during which interval his parents were residents of these cities. He then studied in the Lowell high school of San Francisco and graduated therefrom in December, 1917. He took up his more advanced studies in Stanford University, from which he received the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1921. Having determined to make the practice of law his life’s vocation, he continued at Stanford and in 1923 this institution conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence. He was soon afterward admitted to practice in all courts of the state, and for a time was connected with the United States naturalization service as an examiner. During recent years he has been in general practice, and he has made most favorable progress. His offices are situated in the Mills building, San Francisco. On July 29, 1928, in San Francisco, Mr. Ankele was married to Miss Madelyn Williams, a native of San Francisco. They reside at 3065 Clay street in this city. During the period of the United States’ participation in the World war, Mr. Ankele was in Stanford University, and there was a member of the Students’ Army Training Corps. His political affiliation is with the republican party. He is a member of the Chi Psi collegiate fraternity, and belongs to the Commercial Club. Golf and outdoor life of various kinds have been his favorite recreational activities. He has displayed enthusiasm in the local affairs of San Francisco in which representative citizens are usually interested, and is very popular in the professional, business and social circles in which he appears.
