Description: Offered is the antique leather-bound book "Annals of the West", complied by James R. Albach and published in 1856 by W. S. Haven in Pittsburgh. The book, "embracing a concise account of principal events which have occurred in the Western states and territories from the discovery of the Mississippi Valley to 1856" is a first edition, with the "entered according to act of Congress" date matching the printing date. The original owner has written his name inside the front, with an 1857 date. The thick book is approx. 9 3/8" x 1/46" and contains 1,016 pages, including the index. It is in fair condition, with cover damage. The front piece of the brown leather cover is detached, but present, while the back cover is still partially attached, also with considerable wear (see last two photos). The spine leather is missing. The endpapers have some browning and staining. There is a small price figure written on one of the front blank pages, with the owner's name and date on another. The first few pages are slightly ragged on the edges but after that I see no missing or torn pages and all of the pages are well-attached to the binding. They have browned slightly and have light foxing, with a few pages having some darker staining, but all text is readable. I see no writing in the book other than that already mentioned. I have a lot of experience with vintage and antique books but am not an expert so please let me know if my description is missing information and you have additional questions. I will do my best to answer them! Please take a moment to look at some of the other items in my eBay store!
