Through the last several decades, many movies set in that time period have been made. In the last several years, we've had even more movies made, as well as a few cable TV series. And these movies and series don't hold anything back, and they're all actually really good! In today's great deal we have a nice bundle of Roman empire films and a series (season 1 AND season 2 of 'Rome')! We start with 'Rome', HBO's historically actually depiction of the Julius Caesar times in ancient Rome. It's great, and since it's on cable, there's lots of sex and violence. But that aside, the storyline is fascinating and the acting is incredible! Great sets and costumes. This box set includes both season 1 and season 2. (They only made two seasons.) Plenty of intense violence, swearing, and graphic nudity. Then we move on to the movies. The sequel to 'Gladiator', ('Gladiator 2') is in theaters now, so we show some love for the first one with the widescreen TWO disc special edition! The first disc is the film, and the second disc is chock full of bonus special features. Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix are phenomenal in their roles. Plenty to be amazed by on this one! 'Gladiator' won several Academy Awards (five, including best picture 2001, and best actor for Russell Crowe), and the movie was nominated for several more (seven nominations in total, including best supporting actor for Joaquin Phoenix). The first of two Blu-ray discs is for the movie 'The Eagle'. Single disc Blu-ray edition, containing both the theatrical and the unrated versions. Starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell. Special features include an alternate ending, deleted scenes, and a featurette on the 'making of a Roman epic'. The other Blu-ray is a remake of the movie 'Ben-Hur, and is a combo with both a Blu-ray and a DVD. 'Ben-Hur' started out as a novel in 1880, then a silent short film in 1907. Another silent (full-length) film was made in 1925, plus an animated film in 2003. The most popular 'Ben-Hur' film came out in 1959, and starred Charlton Heston as the main character. Jesus Christ also plays a pivotal role in this movie. This Blu-ray for the 2016 remake included here is fantastic, and is loaded with realistic special effects. A classic story retold, with amazing sets and great acting! Some of the discs in this bundle look new, and are still shiny and clean. Others have a few surface marks on them, but nothing too bad, or that will affect play. I have watched each one of these at some point during the past few years, and everything played fine. Some of the cases look great, while a few others have mild signs of wear. They are all either Region 1 or region free DVDs, and Region A or region free Blu-rays. Rated R, PG-13, or unrated. (Everything is recommended for mature audiences or older teens and not young children.) Bring home this bundle of ancient Roman movies and series with plenty of action and drama.
