Description: A classic work on firearms. First edition, rebound. Subtitled as including " Containing the Various Methods of Forging, Boring, and Dressing of Gun Barrels, Practiced in France (etc.) ... an Investigation of the Causes of Recoil (etc.) an Inquiry into the Effects of Length, Bore, and Charge (etc.)". Apparently largely based upon an earlier book by Marolles titled La Chasse Au Fusil. The book is a superb later re-binding using teal colored full leather. Four wide bands to spine create five compartments showing gilt title and date with three gilt birds. Both front and rear cover show a blind stamped quiver with arrows. Binding is tight and well done, corners are sharp but show a tiny bit of wear, spine is very lightly sunned, a spot of soiling to covers. Internally clean and unmarked, save for date to title page. Some spotting, some age tanning to page edges, a bit of staining to last ten pages. 303 pages. Size approximately 8 x 5.5 inches. Overall, a gem.
