Description: This is a vintage antique sample of patented antique barbed wire. This sample features a Thomas V. Allis patent, dated July 26, 1881. This wire is called "Allis' Double Sided Narrow Buckthorn Ribbon" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 1002-B). This wire features a twisted ribbon with heavy round core, and having adjacent points cut on each side of ribbon. Ribbon is 3/4" wide point to point. Sample is 18" in length. Wire sample shows very light pitting. There are thirty-six barbs. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. There are no bent, broken or missing barbing points.
